Description Mathematics of Data Models teaches linear algebra, statistics, and some multivariable calculus with applications to computer science, especially machine learning. Students will learn how to fit curves to data, predict the long-term behavior of simple (linear) systems, use statistics to test hypotheses, and train machine learning models to make classifications and predictions. While fundamentally a math class, the emphasis is on understanding and applying practical techniques.
Format Lectures plus assignments that contain some written work and some exercises in Python. No previous knowledge of Python is required, and the emphasis will be on trying small experiments with existing libraries instead of writing large programs.
